Design of Razer Book 13

The Razer Book 13 has a chassis made entirely of CNC aluminum. The lid has a laser-printed Razer logo in the center that accents the minimalist design of this office laptop. Instead of possessing the usual bold black look of Razer gaming laptops, the Razer Book is covered with eye-catching silver-white color and creates a professional look for users.

The machine also has a few other outstanding details, namely the silver border surrounding the unique screen. The laptop’s opening slot is cut in a very delicate thin, making it easy to open the machine with just one hand. The machine has military standard MIL-STD-810 so it is very durable.

Open the lid of the laptop, the interior of the machine is also made of high-grade aluminum. The island keyboard is dyed white in harmony with the design of the machine. The Razer Book 13’s keyboard is sandwiched between a pair of speakers and sits right above the machine’s large touchpad.

Measuring 11.6 x 7.8 x 0.6 inches and weighing 1.4 kg, the Razer Book 13 is a bit heavier than the main competitors in the segment, namely the Asus ZenBook 13 UX325EA (11.9 x 8 x 0.5 inches, 1.13. kg). The Dell XPS 13 (11.6 x 7.8 x 0.6 inches) and the Apple MacBook Pro M1 (11.9 x 8.4 x 0.2 ~ 0.6 inches) are also lighter at 1.27kg.

Connector

Unlike most ultra-thin laptops on the market, the Razer Book 13 has enough ports for you to use. On the right side of the camera body, you’ll find a Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI 2.0 port and a microSD card reader. On the left side there is another Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB 3.1 Type A port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The display screen

One of the Razer laptops’ strengths is the display. The Razer Book 13 owns a 13.4 inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, for sharp image quality with high brightness.

On the color rendering test, the Razer Book 13 display showed 80.7% of the DCI-P3 color range, slightly lower than the high-end laptop average of 85.5%. However, these results beat competitors in the same segment as the MacBook Pro (78.3%), ZenBook 13 (76.1%) and XPS 13 (69.4%).

The display screen

The Razer Book 13 display has great brightness, with 436 nits measured, which is higher than the 388 nit average in the same segment. This beats the MacBook Pro and ZenBook 13, which are 435 nits and 370 nits, respectively, but less than the 469 nits of the XPS 13 display.
The screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, allowing you to comfortably use the touch feature without worrying about scratches.

The keyboard and touchpad of the Razer Book 13

Like every other Razer laptop, the Razer Book 13 is equipped with a Chiclet keyboard with anti-keylog capabilities along with its beautiful Chroma projector system. The keyboard’s lights show 16.8 million colors through the Razer Synapse software.

More than just handsome, the Razer Book 13’s keyboard offers a comfortable typing experience with keys that deliver firm and quick response. The size of each large key fits all finger sizes.

The glass touchpad measures a spacious 4.4 x 2.7-inch. The touchpad was responsive and accurate in all of my swiping gestures including zoom out, 2-finger swipe to scroll, and 3-finger tap.

Processing performance

The Razer Book 13 is equipped with Intel’s latest chip called Tiger Lake, with improved performance and battery life compared to the previous version. The Razer Book 13 that we used to review owns a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7-1165G7 chip, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB M.2 PCIe SSD. Despite opening up to 35 Chrome tabs, with multiple tabs streaming on Youtube and Twitch, I was able to work normally without noticing any slowdown with the Razer Book 13.

When testing the performance with the tool, starting with Geekbench 5.0, the Razer Book 13 scored 5460, which is much higher than the high-end laptop average. Although using the same Core i7-1165G7 chip, ZenBook 13 (5,084 points) and XPS 13 (5,254 points) have worse results. However, Apple’s M1 chip, the MacBook Pro, beat them all with a score of 5882.
